PIERCING PREP

Your piercing prep guide

Everything you need to know before you head to Pheenix Piercing Petone to finally get the body piercing you’ve been dreaming of.

Piercing Prep

Whether it’s your first or tenth piercing, there’s no need to be nervous.

At Pheenix Piercing Petone, we’ve got your back.

Use our helpful piercing prep tips to help make your experience comfortable and safe.

Avoid alcohol or drugs

It goes without saying that for at least 8 hours before any piercing appointment, to avoid all alcohol and drugs, if you are under the influence, you will need to come back another time. Pheenix Piercing Petone recommends also avoiding heavily caffeinated or energy drinks as they can thin your blood, which can cause extra bleeding or potential complications.

Eat, sleep, and hydrate

The ultimate piercing prep tip is to ensure you are well rested, hydrated, and fueled. Eating a full meal within 4 hours of getting your piercing gives your body the energy it needs to heal. Combine that with a good night's sleep and plenty of water, means you are supporting your body to heal quicker. If you are feeling a bit off or sick, Pheenix Piercing Petone recommends rescheduling, as being ill can slow the healing process.

Wear comfortable clothing

One of our secret hot piercing prep tips is to make sure you are wearing light, loose, and comfortable clothing (especially around the piercing area) to help you feel extra relaxed and not to irritate the piercing area after.

Makeup-free!

If you normally wear make-up on the area you are getting pierced, Pheenix Piercing Petone recommends skipping your normal make-up routine that day, as it can cause infection or slow healing. AND because we pride ourselves on cleanliness, we’ll request that it be removed before we proceed.

Don’t rush the process

You’ll have your piercing for a long time, so allow yourself plenty of time to select your jewellery piece (check out our range here) and have a consultation with your body piercer, so you are both on the same page on your ideal outcome.

Keep your jewellery in

To have a successful piercing outcome, jewellery must stay in during the healing period. So, if you have to adhere to a special dress code or have a medical procedure coming up, make sure you consider this before making your piercing visit.

Keep it clean

This piercing prep tip goes without saying: keep your piercing clean to avoid infection. Avoid public or natural water sources, i.e. swimming pools, lakes, etc Stick to your own shower, where you can control cleanliness and temperature, until the piercing is healed.

Medical conditions

At Pheenix Piercing Petone, we pride ourselves on safety, so if you have heart conditions, blood disorders, epilepsy, diabetes, or any other medical concerns that might affect healing or your ability to safely get a piercing, please consult a medical professional before your visit. We may need to adjust the procedure or take extra precautions to keep you safe.

This includes whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. To protect you and your baby, we recommend avoiding new piercings during pregnancy. Any open wound can increase the risk of infection, and your body undergoes many changes during this period. Piercings such as navel, dermal implants, or nipple piercings may migrate or be rejected due to these changes. Jewellery may also need to be removed during delivery or while nursing. We also recommend waiting at least 6 months after finishing breastfeeding before getting a nipple piercing to ensure proper healing.

Mental preparation

It’s always nerve-wracking when you are about to do something new; we get it. Let our staff know, and they can help support you through the process (or bring someone along for moral support). If the piercing equipment is already set up and, for any reason, you decide not to go ahead, you may be charged for the sterilised equipment, so definitely be sure before saying yes.

No unsupervised children

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to receive a piercing at Pheenix Piercing Petone, as body piercing requires focus and precision.

Remember: If these guidelines aren’t followed, we reserve the right to decline service.

Following these tips will help ensure your piercing heals well, looks great, and gives you the best possible experience at Pheenix Piercing Petone.
